(…) Painting is becoming more necessary than ever. It is the only medium where the full physicality of seeing through manual labor culminates in knowledge experience. Through gender, temperament, zeitgeist, materials, social condition, community ideas etc. the painter makes choices that dominate every square centimeter of the canvas. Art is choosing: Every choice is a gesture through which the painter, with his painting, makes precious, consecrated, cherished and sheltered a selected fragment of the visual continuum: a sort of hortus conclusus for the eye.
